MPs Sushmita Dev, Dr Santanu Sen & 17 others suspended from Rajya Sabha for 'misconduct'

As part of disciplinary action, 19 MPs were suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remaining part of the week for 'misconduct' on Tuesday.

As part of disciplinary action, 19 MPs were suspended from Rajya Sabha for 'misconduct' on Tuesday.  MPs were suspended from Upper House of Parliament for remaining part of week after y reached well of House protesting, demanding discussion on issues of inflation and recent GST rate hike.

Just a day ago, four MPs from Congress were suspended from Lok Sabha. MPs were suspended when even after continued warning, y kept protesting and demanding discussion on aforementioned issues.

MPs have been suspended under Rule Number 256 of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, which states, " Chairman may, if he deems it necessary, suspend a member from service of Council for a period not exceeding remainder of Session..”

'What's wrong in demanding a discussion?'

Leer of Opposition in Lok Sabha, hir Ranjan Chowdhury reacted to suspension of MPs. Chowdhury said, "What's wrong with demanding a discussion on price hike? But govt is reluctant in having any discussion. price rise issue needs to be discussed. entire population has been a victim of price hike. So finding no alternative in Parliament, we were shouting that this issue should be discussed and nothing else. This govt opted a brutal measure to suspend our MPs."

Also, Leer of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge reacted by saying, "If members try to say something, you suspend m...It is totally incorrect."

first week of Monsoon Session of Parliament that began on July 18 has witnessed continued disruption and journments, recording almost no business, as Opposition members, not just in Lok Sabha but also Rajya Sabha, have demanded a discussion on price rise, Goods and Services Tax (GST) and  Agnipath scheme.
