UPA's VVIP Robert Vadra calls MPs' Odd-Even exemption 'hypocritical'

Slamming the exceptions under Delhi's Odd-Even scheme, Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra, on Tuesday, posted his outrage against the 'hypocritical exemptions'. In a Facebook post, he stated that members of parliament who are exempted are meant to set an example by following rules. He claimed that all the rules must be followed by all to understand the felt by common people.

Vadra slams 'hypocritical exemptions'

He claimed, "The day the CM of Delhi is to find an 'Odd bucket proof car' they will understand the rules. We must revolt for Each citizen of Delhi should have to follow the rules and have no special exempt list for VIPs". Apart from the post, he also added the list of exemptions under the Odd-Even rule.

Vadra exempted from frisking at airports

Ironically, Vadra himself enjoys a preferential treatment as he belongs to the elite "no-frisking" list at domestic airports. Civil Aviation Ministry had confirmed in 2015 that it has no plans to remove his name from the list, as per PTI.  As of now, Vadra is not frisked at airports if he travels with a Special Protection Group or SPG personnel.

No frisk exemptions

The current no-frisk list includes the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Union Cabinet ministers, Leader of Opposition, Supreme Court judges, high court chief justices, chief ministers and their deputies, governors, and ambassadors. It also includes Vadra's wife Priyanka and his brother-in-law, Rahul Gandhi. The issue of removing Vadra's exemption from frisking had been raised by then-Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who had said that the exemption should be meaningful and not 'ornamental'.

Odd-Even Scheme

Under the scheme, apart from exempted categories, only those non-transport four-wheeled vehicles will ply on the roads which have registration numbers ending with an even digit. Violations of the odd-even rule will invite a fine of Rs 4,000. Under the scheme, which is now implemented and will be in place till 8 pm, non-transport four-wheeled vehicles with registration numbers ending with an odd digit (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) will not be allowed on the roads on November 4, 6, 8, 12 and 14. Similarly, vehicles with registration numbers ending with an even digit (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) will not be allowed on the roads on November 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15.
