Minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed nation highlighting that Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is t to take away citizenship, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee skipped programme at Port Trust in Kolkata. While Banerjee was sent an official invitation by Port Trust for event, she chose to stay away. This comes as a trigger point after Prime Minister's comment on CAA at Belur Math on Sunday morning. However, Goverr Jagdeep Dhankar and Union MoS Mansukh Mandviya were present at event.

PM meets Mamata Banerjee
PM Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Kolkata, addressed an event at Belur Math and clarified doubts pertaining to Citizenship Amendment Act. Upon arriving in West Bengal on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and latter reiterated her objection over CAA, NRC, and NPR.
PM Modi, while addressing nation from Belur Math, urged people to t get misguided by confusion being spread over act and furr reiterated that act doesn't erode citizenship of anyone. "I will say again, Citizenship Act is t a law to take citizenship, it is a law to grant citizenship and Citizenship Amendment Act is only an amendment to that law. Despite such clarity, some people are spreading confusion about Citizenship Amendment Act. I am glad that today's youth is also clearing confusion of such people," PM said.

Mamata on CAA
PM on Saturday met CM Banerjee at Kolkata's Raj Bhavan where y held discussions on those issues. Banerjee n addressed reporters outside Bhavan and shared topics of her interaction with PM Modi. "I told him (PM Modi) that you are my guest here but still I would say that we are against CAA, NRC and NPR. re's nationwide agitation going on against it and we are a part of it. We don't want anyone to lose ir citizenship and one should face any form of atrocity. I requested him to rethink on CAA and NRC and told him that we want m to be repealed," Trinamool Congress supremo said.
