Possible Short Circuit Triggered Fire At Jhansi Hospital Claiming 10 Infants Lives, Claim Police

A deadly fire broke out at the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, on Friday night, claiming lives of 10 children and injuring several others.

Jhansi: A dely fire broke out at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, on Friday night, claiming lives of at least 10 children and injuring several ors. According to a senior police official of Uttar Presh police, preliminary inquiry revealed that prima facie fire broke out due to a short circuit inside children’s ward at hospital. However, police are investigating fire incident to ascertain right cause of fire.

It is being said that 54 children were mitted to hospital when fire broke out. Of m, 10 children have been declared de, while several ors are undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister Yogi ityanath has taken cognizance of incident and ordered a high-level inquiry into incident. As per reports, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Commissioner have been assigned to investigate fire incident and submit report in 12 days.

According to Jhansi police, fire erupted at around 10.45 pm in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), possibly due to an electrical short circuit. It is being claimed that at least 54 children were present inside ward when fire broke out.

Jhansi District Magistrate (DM) Avinash Kumar confirmed deaths of 10 children and reported that children in outer part of NICU were rescued, along with some from interior. However, toll may rise as rescue operation continues.

CM Yogi directed officials to ensure proper treatment for injured and wished for ir speedy recovery. He also dispatched Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, state's health minister, and principal secretary of health to Jhansi. chief minister has demanded a report on incident within 12 hours.
