Preparations in full swing as Capt Amarinder Singh assures full logistical support to people attending the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on 24 June, assured British Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Ayre of full logistical support by the state government to people of Indian origin settled in the United Kingdom for visiting Punjab to pay respects and offer prayers at the Sultanpur Lodhi on the 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on 24 June, assured British Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Ayre of full logistical support by the state government to people of Indian origin settled in the Untied Kingdom for visiting Punjab to pay respects and offer prayers at the Sultanpur Lodhi on the 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Devji.
Capt. Amarinder Singh said that he would personally urge the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to direct the Indian High Commissioner in the UK to be flexible in the granting of visas to Punjabis of Indian origin settled in the UK for the event.
Preparations are already at full swing in the holy city of Sultanpur Lodhi, where the first Sikh Guru had attained enlightenment and had spent more than 17 years of his life. Other places associated with the founder of Sikhism such as Baala and Dera Baba Nanak, were also being decked up for the occasion, said the Chief Minister.
Expressing the interests of several delegations from the UK to visit Punjab to be a part of the historic event, Ayre thanked the Capt. Amarinder for offering his undivided support to facilitate these delegations.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Raveen Thukral, Advocate General Atul Nanda, Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Home N S Kalsi, Principal Secretary to CM Tejveer Singh and Special Principal Secretary to CM Gurkirat Kirpal Singh.
In November 2018, the Government of India announced preparations for a year-long celebration of the 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji and said that Sultanpur Lodhi will be developed as a heritage city incorporating ‘Pind Babe Nanak Da’. Further, it also announced that the Sultanpur Lodhi railway station will be upgraded and a train will run passing through places associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji. A number of religious activities like kirtan, katha, prabhat pheri, langar and educational activities such as seminars, workshops, lectures and so on will be organized.
