President to attend IIT-Roorkee convocation in Uttarakhand on Oct 4

President Ram Nath Kovind will be attending the convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-Roorkee) in Uttarakhand. He will also address the students and present awards during the occasion on Friday. The President’s Secretariat said that, “The President will visit Uttarakhand on October 4, 2019, to address the annual convocation of IIT Roorkee.” Apart from the President, Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will also attend the convocation ceremony. According to IIT Roorkee, a total of 2029 degrees will be awarded this year out of which 1,018 are for undergraduate recipients, 702 for postgraduate and 309 for Ph.D. degree recipients, respectively. 

President Kovind receives credentials 

The President, Ram Nath Kovind was presented with the credentials from five countries on October 3. The countries that put forward their credentials to the President, included France, Denmark and the European Union (EU). The other ambassadors included those of Mexico and Kazakhstan, according to the President's Secretariat. This took place in a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

President Kovind's address at Ranchi University's convocation

President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday, September 30, while addressing the Ranchi University convocation spoke about sports and addiction to vices. He reiterated the importance of sports and said, "Jharkhand is a place of human resources. It is the birthplace of Jaipal Singh Munda, captain of hockey team which won gold in the 1928 Olympics, archer Deepika Kumari, Param Vir Chakra awardee late Albert Ekka, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and others." He congratulated the girl students for receiving the maximum number of gold medals in the convocation. Apart from this, he appealed to the youth to stay away from the impact of e-cigarettes. He said, "Youths are falling victim to e-cigarettes. The Central government has banned it this month. Sixteen states and one Union Territory has banned e-cigarettes, while the Jharkhand government had already banned it since April. E-cigarette is harmful to health. Hope youths will not come under its influence."
