Press Council condemns attack on Arnab Goswami, seeks report from Maharashtra Govt

The Press Council of India condemned the attack on Republic TV Editor Arnab Goswami & his wife and called for a report from the Maharashtra government

Press Council of India on Thursday condemned attack on Republic Media Network Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and Republic TV Editor Samyabrata Ray Goswami and called for a report from  Maharashtra government over incident. In a statement, Press Council of India said it is distressed to kw about attack on Arnab Goswami "purportedly for his views as a journalist".

“Every citizen in country, including a journalist, has right to express ir opinion which may t be palatable to many but this does t give anybody authority to strangulate such a voice,” council said.

PCI seeks report from Maharashtra Government

Condemning attack, Press Council of India expected that Maharashtra government, led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will apprehend perpetrators and bring m to justice immediately. PCI chairman asked  Maharashtra government, through Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, to submit a report on facts of case at earliest, statement read.

Two motorcycle-borne assailants attacked Arnab's car in Mumbai and tried to break its glass window when he and his wife were on ir way home on Wednesday night. Both attackers have been arrested.
