In response to growing commuter demands, several stations on the Pune Metro network are set to be renamed within the next 10-15 days. According to a senior official from Maha Metro, the renaming process is in its final stages and a formal notification is expected soon.
The renaming comes after a long-standing debate, particularly surrounding the Bhosari station on Corridor One in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Although named Bhosari, the station is actually situated 5 kilometers away in Nashik Phata. This discrepancy has led to considerable confusion among commuters. The Financial Express reports that Maha Metro plans to rename the station "Nashik Phata" to reflect its actual location.
Another station facing criticism is Budhwar Peth, which has long been associated with Pune’s red-light district. Responding to commuter suggestions, Maha Metro will rename this station "Kasba Peth," a change aimed at distancing it from unwanted associations. Additionally, the Mangalwar Peth station will be renamed "RTO" since it is located near the Regional Transport Office (RTO), making it more intuitive for commuters.
These changes follow a similar renaming process that saw the Civil Court station become "District Court" last month after requests from the legal community.
