Pune weather continues to worsen as heavy rainfall drenches the city, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a 'red' alert for Maharashtra on Wednesday and Thursday. The downpour has caused significant waterlogging in several areas of Pune, disrupting daily life.

The IMD stated, “Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over Madhya Maharashtra on September 25 and 26, Gujarat region on September 26, and Konkan and Goa till September 26.” Pune weather has been particularly intense since Tuesday, with areas such as Magarpatta, Wadgaon Sheri, Kalyani Nagar, and Yerawada facing severe downpours. Even regions like Pashan, Sinhagad Road, and Kothrud have experienced heavy showers.

Shivajinagar, one of the central areas, recorded 19.2 mm of rainfall by 5:30 pm, according to the IMD. The department attributes the heavy Pune weather conditions to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal and a monsoon shear zone lying over northern Maharashtra .

Other Alerts by IMD

Apart from Pune weather, the IMD has also issued alerts for other states. An 'orange' alert predicting very heavy rainfall is in place for Gujarat , Bihar , Marathwada, East Madhya Pradesh , and northeastern states. A 'yellow' alert for heavy rain has been issued in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

In the southern states, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are also expected to experience thunderstorms, with light to moderate rain likely to hit northern Tamil Nadu, southern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Winds of 30-40 kmph are forecast for these areas on Wednesday.

Delhi can expect a break from the warm weather as light rain or drizzle is predicted during the day.

Maharashtra ’s Pune remains one of the worst-hit cities, with rainfall expected to persist throughout the week, compounding issues of waterlogging and disruption across the city.
