Coronavirus lockdown: Punjab CM to distribute 10 lakh ration packets to daily wage earners

In order to ensure availability of food for poor during 21-day lockdown, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday anunced distribution of 10 lakh packets of dry ration to daily w workers and urganised labourers in state. packets which would contain 10 kg atta, 2 kg dal and 2 kg of sugar would be distributed in areas where daily w labourers reside, as per an official spokesperson.

se ration packets will be me available at offices of Deputy Commissioners of state and would be distributed to needy accordingly. Although se packets would be given to people via door-to-door distribution, those in need could dial in state helpline number for same.

Earlier in day, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while holding a press conference anunced a COVID-19 relief pack worth Rs 1.7 lakh crore with an exhaustive list of benefits for poor and women. "A pack is rey for poor who need immediate help like migrant workers and urban and rural poor. one will go hungry. government is working for those who are directly affected like migrants, labours, women," said Sitharaman.
While Punjab CM welcomed this decision of Modi Government, he claimed that re was immediate relief provided by Centre to daily w earners and urganised sector workers who were struggling most during lockdown period.

Finance Minister during press conference anunced that in dition to alrey allotted five kg of rice/wheat per person, an ditional 5kg will be free for poor. With this, an ditional one kilogram of pulses according to regional preference will be provided.
Apart from that, several or direct benefit transfers were anunced for farmers and MGNREGS employed workers including an increment in ir ws during lockdown period. For building and or construction workers, a welfare fund of Rs 31,000 cr fund, with over 3 crores registered workers has been set in place to protect m against any ecomic disruption.
