Punjab CM Capt Singh will explore the option of opening special courts

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh stated that he will work on the possibility of starting special courts to speedily settle the cases of people who were declared Proclaimed Offenders (POs) who ran away from the state during the days of terrorism. "The Chief Minister has assured the Punjabi diaspora settled abroad that he would take up with the Chief Justice of the High Court, as well as the Central Government, the issue of setting up Special Courts to expeditiously settle cases of those who had been declared Proclaimed Offenders (POs) after fleeing Punjab during the dark days of terrorism," an official statement read on Tuesday.

Punjab CM congratulates the Sikh Community

Captain Amarinder informed about this while he was responding to a group of NRIs visiting Punjab for the celebration of 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. "The NRIs expressed the concern that many of those who had immigrated abroad were unable to visit Punjab and pay their respects at the Darbar Sahib and other holy places as they had been declared POs on account of their inability to appear before the courts in certain cases," the statement said.

The Punjab CM also assured them that he will hold discussions with the Central Government about the possibility of starting up special courts in Indian Missions abroad, in countries like UK, USA, Canada, Germany, and France, where Punjabi population lives in big numbers. On the occasion, the Punjab Chief Minister also took the opportunity to congratulate the whole Sikh community and the NRI Sikhs on the opening of the historic Kartarpur Corridor on the 550th Birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, thus facilitating 'khulle darshan deedar' of the historic gurdwara.

While talking on the occasion, President of the Council of Gurdwaras Management Committee UK, Avtar Singh also thanked the Punjab CM  for agreeing to their pending request for getting the Central Government to abolish the blacklist through his efforts. The event was also attended by various party leaders, government officials, and prominent NRIs.
