Punjab Police Busts Cyber Fraud Ring: Two Arrested In Guwahati For Rs 5 Crore Scam

Two persons involved in a cyber fraud of more than Rs 5 crore have been arrested from Guwahati, an official statement issued by Punjab Police said on Monday.

Chandigarh: Two persons involved in a cyber fraud of more than Rs 5 crore have been arrested from Guwahati, an official statement issued by Punjab Police said on Monday. 

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that around Rs 5.25 crore have been recovered along with ATM cards and mobile phones. DGP called it the largest ever recovery as per I4C data. 

In a post on X, DGP Gaurav Yadav said, “Commendable work by @Ludhiana_Police in cracking an inter-state cyber fraud gang. Two persons have been arrested from Guwahati, with the help of  @assampolice,and seven more persons nominated. A recovery of ₹5.25 crore, along with ATM cards and mobile phones, marks the largest-ever recovery in #India as per I4C data.”

DGP said that those officials involved in the successful operation of nabbing the accused have been awarded Director General's Commendation Disc. 

"In recognition of the excellent police work, the Cybercrime team of Ludhiana Commissionerate has been awarded the Director General's Commendation Disc for their unwavering dedication in ensuring public safety. This achievement sets a strong precedent and a high bar in the fight against cybercrime," the DGP added.

Thanking Assam police for their support in the operation, the top cop said, "I thank DGP Assam Police for the excellent support provided in our inter-state operation Punjab Police is working round-the-clock to take immediate action against New Age crimes and keep our citizens safe as per the directions of CM Bhagwant Mann."
