Rahul Gandhi has embarked on a trip to the United States on Friday night ahead of scheduled Presidential debate between Republican nominee Donald Trump
New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has embarked on a trip to the United States on Friday night ahead of scheduled Presidential debate between Republican nominee Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10.
The Trump vs. Harris debate, which will be aired on ABC News, will be the first since President Biden's withdrawal from the race for White House in July.
Rahul Gandhi 's itinerary includes engagements with the Indian diaspora, meetings with business and academic leaders, and participation in various activities.
When Gandhi was spotted and approached by media personnel at IGI Airport in Delhi for comments on his trip, he chose not to respond.
Gandhi’s First International Trip
This visit is Gandhi’s first international journey since the Lok Sabha elections in June. During those elections, the strategy of the Congress -led INDIA bloc to unite against the Bharatiya Janata Party yielded partial success, as the BJP fell short of a majority and had to form a coalition government. The Congress party also saw a notable resurgence and gained popularity, securing 99 seats compared to the 52 it won in 2019. This turnaround was largely attributed to Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra series, which bolstered the party's grassroots connections.
Gandhi's US visit will include:
- Meetings with the Indian diaspora in Texas and Washington, DC, on September 8 and 9.
- The Texas event will be held at the Toyota Music Factory in Dallas, while the Washington, DC, meeting is scheduled from 5-8 PM at the Hilton Washington Dulles, near Dulles Airport.
- Surendra Rajput, national media panelist for Congress Party, informed on X that Gandhi will address ‘the India of his dreams' event which will pe presided by Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Rajput also stated that the role of the Leader of the Opposition has gained significance since the general elections. He emphasized that there is global interest in Gandhi's perspectives on democracy, the constitution, and the future of India, and that Gandhi will elaborate on what the Congress party is doing for the country.
