Rainy Sunday in Delhi: IMD Sounds Orange Alert for 3 Days, Several States to See Wet Spell

With the onset of the monsoon, Delhi and its adjoining areas are expected to witness heavy downpours as the IMD issued an orange alert in the region.

New Delhi: With onset of monsoon, national capital and its joining areas are expected to witness heavy downpours as India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, warning for moderate to heavy rainfall from June 30 to July 2.

regional meteorological centre in New Delhi forecast for Sunday said, “Generally cloudy sky. Moderate to heavy rain/thunderstorm. accompanied with gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph).” 

Parts of Delhi witnessed incessant rainfall on Saturday, with areas including Rohini and Burari getting light showers. city recorded a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. Safdarjung wear station recorded 8.9 mm of rainfall and Lodhi Ro 12.6 mm between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm on Saturday.

On Friday alone, first day of heavy rain this monsoon, national capital recorded approximately one-third of its total Monsoon rainfall. Six rain-related deaths were reported on Saturday, raising toll to 11 in first two days since Monsoon arrived. 

Rain Alert in Or States

Besides Delhi, several states in norrn India are likely to witness wet spells as Southwest Monsoon vanced in region.

According to IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Himachal Presh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Presh, Mhya Presh, and Rajasthan from June 30 to July 3.

monsoon furr vanced into remaining parts of east Uttar Presh and some areas of west Uttar Presh on Saturday, it said.
