Rainy Sunday in Delhi: IMD Sounds Orange Alert for 3 Days, Several States to See Wet Spell

New Delhi: With the onset of the monsoon, the national capital and its adjoining areas are expected to witness heavy downpours as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, warning for moderate to heavy rainfall from June 30 to July 2.
The national capital is likely to witness pleasant weather on Sunday as the weather bureau has predicted moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds between 30 to 40 kmph. The maximum temperature on Sunday is likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius.
The regional meteorological centre in New Delhi forecast for Sunday said, “Generally cloudy sky. Moderate to heavy rain/thunderstorm. accompanied with gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph).”
Parts of Delhi witnessed incessant rainfall on Saturday, with areas including Rohini and Burari getting light showers. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. The Safdarjung weather station recorded 8.9 mm of rainfall and Lodhi Road 12.6 mm between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm on Saturday.
On Friday alone, the first day of heavy rain this monsoon, the national capital recorded approximately one-third of its total Monsoon rainfall. Six rain-related deaths were reported on Saturday, raising the toll to 11 in the first two days since the Monsoon arrived.
Rain Alert in Other States
Besides Delhi, several states in northern India are likely to witness wet spells as the Southwest Monsoon advanced in the region.
According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan from June 30 to July 3.
The monsoon further advanced into the remaining parts of east Uttar Pradesh and some areas of west Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, it said.
