On Diwali, hundreds of houses in Chhattisgarh's capital city Raipur will light diyas or earthen lamps made of cow dung. These diyas are not made in factories but in the houses of self-help women in Raipur. Under the state's 'Narwa Garwa Ghurwa Badi Scheme', a group of women is preparing around 2 lakh eco-friendly diyas with cow dung. This waste-to-use method has been actively promoted by the Chhattisgarh government under Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

A push for domestic village businesses
Chief Minister Baghel has appealed people to purchase dresses, decorative items, oil lamps, and other goods from local artisans and craftsmen this Diwali, so that they get to celebrate this festival with zeal and joy. The promotion of domestic village-level businesses is the key goal of the scheme. Last week, the Chief Minister bought diyas made of cow dung at the Raipur fest in a bid to promote eco-friendly Diwali. Further, Chief Minister's residence will be adorned with eco-friendly lights during the festival. He had also shared a video on his twitter handle to share his message of 'Buy Chhattisgarhi'.
