Mumbai: The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has officially announced its fifth list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, releasing 15 names, including Someshwar Kadam from Beed. In the list declared on Saturday, a notable entry is Amit Thackeray, the son of MNS president Raj Thackeray , who will contest from the Mahim constituency in central Mumbai. The upcoming Maharashtra Assembly election will mark the debut of the MNS president's son, Amit Thackeray.

Amit Thackeray joins a legacy of political involvement, as he is the third member of the Thackeray family to run for office. His cousin, Aaditya Thackeray, made his debut in the 2019 assembly elections and won the Worli seat, while Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Amit's second cousin, was elected to the legislative council in 2020 after serving as Maharashtra's chief minister.

The Mahim Assembly constituency has a diverse voter base, including upper-class Maharashtrians and a significant cosmopolitan and minority population. Historically, it has been a stronghold for the undivided Shiv Sena and the MNS since 1990, with Nitin Sardesai winning the seat for MNS in 2009.

In addition to Amit, the MNS has fielded Sandeep Deshpande in Worli, where he will likely face Aaditya Thackeray. Pramod Patil, the only MNS MLA in the outgoing assembly, has been renominated for the Kalyan rural seat, and Avinash Jadhav is set to contest from Thane city. The party aims to strengthen its presence in Mumbai, with 16 candidates listed in the first batch for the November 20 polls.
