Rajasthan: At least 8,000 migratory birds' carcasses found around Sambhar Lake

According to District Collector of Jaipur, Jagroop Singh Yav, at least 8,000 migratory birds' carcasses have been collected so far in and around Sambhar Lake area in Rajasthan.
While talking about annual visit of migratory birds, Yav said, "Migratory birds do visit Sambhar region. Due to prior rains this year, migratory birds came a bit early. This is a universal phemen that a few birds die due to changed climatic conditions when y migrate," ded Yav.

Neuromuscular illness probable cause
Yav, while pointing out possible reasons for ir deaths, said that se deaths are probably caused due to Avian Botulism, a serious neuromuscular illness of birds caused by a toxin that is produced by bacterium Clostridium. He also ded, "When maggots attack birds' body and or birds eat m, ir wings and legs get paralysed which is also kwn as botulism.”

District Collector furr said that as soon as he was informed about migratory birds dying in Sambhar, he sent one team to collect ir samples and furr send m to Bhopal, Mhya Presh. "We have collected at least 8,000 carcasses of birds have been collected from country's largest inland saltwater lake - Sambhar Lake situated in Jaipur. rescue operation of finding and collecting carcasses commenced on vember 10," he ded.

Furr talking about rescue operations, Yav stated that as many as 90 Civil Defence personnel and or rescue force personnel carried out rescue operation in and around lake. Around 1,000 birds were found de around Sambhar Lake situated in Jaipur on Tuesday, vember 12. carcasses include t only indigeus but also migratory birds that flock to lake each year.

Soon after incident came to light, terming birds' death as 'worrying,' Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that government was taking "immediate steps to prevent deaths during this migratory season.
