Rajasthan Opens Four Gates of Bisalpur Dam Amid Heavy Rains

Jaipur: Heavy rain battered many places in Rajasthan 's Bhilwara district while four gates of the Bisalpur dam, a water lifeline of several districts, were opened on Friday due to good rain received in the state this monsoon season.

As the water level reached a sufficient level, the four gates were opened by Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat after offering prayers.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma extended his hearty congratulations and best wishes to all people of the state on the Bisalpur dam being fully filled for the seventh time.

Gates Opened in Phases to Manage Inflow

Rawat in the morning opened two gates after prayers. In view of the inflow of water, two more gates were opened at 5:30 pm.

Tonk District Collector Dr Saumya Jha said that two gates of Bisalpur Dam, the main source of drinking water supply in Jaipur, Ajmer and Tonk districts, were opened on Friday morning due to the water level reaching sufficient level and two more gates were opened in the evening in view of the inflow of water.

36,060 cusecs of water are being drained from the four gates of the dam.

Chief Minister Hails the Significance of Bisalpur’s Full Capacity

The chief minister wrote on X, "It is a matter of great joy and pride that for the first time in the last 26 years, the gates of the dam have been opened in the month of September. Adding to the significance of this historic moment, the gates of the dam were opened only after due worship and traditional rituals, which reflects our rich cultural heritage and respect for nature." He further said, "I am confident that the availability of this water resource will give new impetus to agriculture and industrial development in the state. Also, it will play an important role in dealing with the water crisis and solving the problem of drinking water."

Meteorological Department Predicts Continued Rainfall

According to the Meteorological Center, Jaipur, heavy rainfall was recorded at some places in Bhilwara district and the highest rainfall of 105 mm was recorded in Shahpura neighbouring Bhilwara in the 24 hours till 8.30 am on Friday.

Light to moderate rain occurred in many districts, including Udaipur, Tonk, Sirohi, Pali, Pratapgarh, Nagaur, Jaipur, Dungarpur, Bundi and Chittorgarh.

Officials Warn of More Heavy Rain Across Several Divisions

Center in-charge Radheshyam Sharma said the circulation system is present over north-eastern Rajasthan and surrounding areas today. Due to its effect, monsoon is likely to remain active in most parts of eastern Rajasthan for the next three to four days.

He said there is a possibility of moderate and sometimes heavy and very heavy rains in some parts of Udaipur, Ajmer, and Jaipur divisions on Saturday. There is also a strong possibility of moderate rain and sometimes heavy rains in some parts of the Jodhpur, Bikaner, Bharatpur and Kota divisions.

Sharma said that rain activities are likely to continue in some parts of Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Jaipur divisions on September 8-9 and there is a possibility of heavy rains at some places.

According to data, 28.2 mm of rain was recorded in Ajmer, 13 mm each in Pilani-Sikar, 9.1 mm in Kota and 8.6 mm in Alwar from Friday morning to 5.30 pm.

Farmers to Be Compensated for Crop Losses Due to Heavy Rain

Parliamentary Affairs, Law and Justice Minister Jogaram Patel on Friday visited the areas affected by heavy rains in the Luni assembly constituency of Jodhpur district.

Patel said the state government is working sensitively for agriculture and farmer welfare. This time the crops have been damaged due to excessive rain in the area.

The state government will soon take necessary steps in the interest of the farmers.

Patel said that after the rain stops, action will be taken to provide proper compensation to the farmers for the crop loss by conducting a survey of the areas affected by excessive rain.

He directed the officials of the Revenue and Agriculture Department to complete the work of Girdawari on time so that the farmers get proper benefit of the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme.

The officials should not show any kind of negligence in the loss assessment work, he added.
