Rajnath Singh: Defence talks with Japanese counterpart "fruitful"
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held "fruitful" talks with his Japanese counterpart Takeshi Iwaya in Tokyo. They resolved to deepen defence and strategic ties.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held "fruitful" talks with his Japanese counterpart Takeshi Iwaya in Tokyo on Monday. Both sides have resolved to furr deepen bilateral defence and strategic ties. Rajnath Singh also met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and conveyed to him India's commitment to furr enhance defence engments with Japan, officials said. Defence Minister is currently on a five-day tour of Japan and South Korea and will be in Seoul on Tuesday.

India-Japan Defence Cooperation
Singh and Iwaya deliberated on full spectrum of India-Japan defence cooperation at annual Defence Ministerial dialogue.

Singh has said both sides will continue to work toger to furr deepen defence ties. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation. Officials said both sides also deliberated on overall situation in Indo-Pacific region where China has been increasing its military presence. India, Japan, and US have been part of annual Malabar maritime exercise which is aimed at achieving greater inter-operability among navies of three countries. About his meeting with Abe, Singh said meeting with Japanese prime minister was "excellent".
Singh also said that regular interactions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Abe put special strategic and global partnership between India-Japan on a higher pedestal. "It has ded a new strategic depth to our defence cooperation," he said.

Rajnath Singh's South Korea nda
In South Korea, Singh will hold a bilateral dialogue with Jeong Kyeong-Doo, Minister of National Defence. He will also call on South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-Yon. A CEO's Forum followed by a Business-to-Government (B2G) meeting will also be held in Seoul with participation of members of defence industry from both sides with aim to encour India-ROK defence industry cooperation.

" focus of visit to South Korea will be to explore new areas of defence cooperation including co-development of military hardware," official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi h visited South Korea in February during which both countries decided to strengn strategic ties.
