Rajnath Singh to visit Leh next week, will review security situation
According to defence sources, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to visit Leh next week. He is expected to review the security situation in the region.

Next week, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to visit Leh. He will review security situation in Ladakh region. Defence sources contend that Singh would visit forward bases as well. It is furr speculated that Daulat Beg Oldies and or areas on Line of Actual Control are also on his radar. On one side is Siachen-Kargil-Drass axis which borders Pakistan. Ladakh also shares a long border with China on eastern side. After pass of requisite legislation in both Houses of Parliament in August, it is set to become a Union Territory from October 31.

Deployment of troops
This development comes at a juncture when Indian Army has carried out a major exercise codenamed ‘Chang Thang’ in high-altitude areas of Ladakh close to China border. re has been a deployment of a large number of infantry troops along with frontline tank regiments during exercise. Also, an armoured brigade has been deployed on China border for many years. Since assuming charge as Defence Minister, Singh has extensively travelled to various defence bases to kw working conditions of troops.

Singh receives Rafale jet
A couple of weeks ago, Defence Minister personally visited France to receive first Rafale fighter jet. During this visit, he met his French counterpart and French President Emmanuel Macron. After performing Shastra Puja, he took a sortie in Rafale aircraft. He contended that addition of fighter jet would strengn India’s defence capability.
