Ram Madhav hails CJI for 'using his moral authority' to contain anti-CAA violence

National General Secretary of BJP, Ram Madhav took to Twitter and said he is glad that the CJI is using his moral authority to contain violence in the country.

National General Secretary of BJP, Ram Madhav took to Twitter on Tuesday morning and said he is glad that Chief Justice of India is using his moral authority to contain violence in country. This comes after massive nationwide protests agaist Citizenship (Amendment) Act erupted in India. Taking to Twitter, Ram Madhav said that new Citizenship Act strives to provide citizenship to people who are affected by “partition-fallout”. He also added that Act has thing to do with any of communities. 

Citizenship Amendment Act 

Act seeks to provide citizenship to mirity communities namely Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. This will be applicable to members of se communities having arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014. Moreover, y will t be considered as illegal migrants.

Additionally, mandatory residence period for naturalised citizenship for se communities would be reduced to 5 years. Several parties in rth East such as All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) have been vehemently opposed to this Act. To ameliorate ir concerns, Centre has exempted a major part of rth East from ambit of CAA.  opposition contends that Bill discriminates on basis of religion, which might go against Article 14, which guarantees right to equality.

Anti-CAA protests by students

 protests against  Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 took a violent turn in national capital and or parts of country on Sunday. students of Jamia Millia Islamia University claimed that police baton-charged m when y were holding a peaceful protest. Protestors torched several public buses and police vehicles as y clashed with police in New Friends' Colony near Jamia University during a demonstration against amended Citizenship Act, leaving six cops and two firemen injured, officials said.

After student and police clash, a few students were detained.  Delhi Mirities Commission issued an emergency order to SHO Kalkaji Police Station to release injured students of Jamia Millia Islamia University or to take m without any delay for treatment to a hospital. Some Congress leaders including Arvinder Singh Lovely, Choudhary Mateen Ahmed, and Shoaib Iqbal reached friends colony police station to meet detained Jamia students.

Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, chairperson of Commission in order, has also asked police to file a compliance report by 3 pm today at Commission's office failing which will attract an appropriate action. Apart from this, Hundreds of AMU students protesting against  Citizenship (Amendment) Act at Police HQ raised slogans against PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Delhi Police. y clashed with police at AMU campus gate; police use batons and tear-gas to disperse m.
