Rare 12th-century sculptures of Lord Shiva & Goddess Indrani unearthed in Jammu

On Friday, an official stated that the department was notified by some sources about the presence of rare sculptures in the Bhour Camp region.

Jammu: A pair of rare sculptures of Lord Shiva and Goddess Indrani, dating back to 12th century, have been recovered from Bhour Camp area near Jammu by Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums.

On Friday, an official stated that department was notified by some sources about presence of rare sculptures in Bhour Camp region. As a result, a team from Archaeology department, led by Director Archives, Archaeology, and Museums, Pardeep Kumar, visited site and rescued statues.

crew took possession of statues in accordance with provisions of J&K Act 1954.

According to preliminary results, sculptures date back to 12th century and are quite rare.

se sculptures portray human form of Goddess Indrani measuring 28"x 13.5" and weighing around 55 kgs, and Lord Shiva measuring 21" x 14" and weighing roughly 40 kgs.
