Mumbai Traffic Update: Marine Drive Road Partially Closed for Ratan Tata's Funeral | Image: ANI

Mumbai: As preparations are underway for the cremation of giant industrialist Ratan Tata in Mumbai's Worli on Thursday, October 9, the Mumbai Traffic Police has closed the Marine Drive Road beyond the Oberoi hotel as the police have cordoned off the road leading to National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA).

Ratan Tata's mortal remains were brought to the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai's Nariman Point where people can pay their last respects to the Indian icon till 4pm today. His cremation will take place in the Worli area later in the day.

The legend breathed his last at south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital at 11.30 pm on Wednesday, October 9. He was admitted to the hospital for the past few days.

Condoling his demise, the Tata family issued a statement which read. "We his brothers, sisters, and family take solace and comfort in the outpouring of love and respect from all who admired him. While he is no longer with us in person, his legacy of humility, generosity, and purpose will continue to inspire future generations."

Tributes poured in for the industry giant from people from all walks of lives as nation mourned his demise. 

The visionary industrialist will be cremated with full state honours, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced. The state government has also declared a day of mourning on Thursday to honour the late philanthropist. CM Shinde announced that the Tricolour will be flown at half-mast across government offices in the state as a mark of respect for the late Indian icon.
