Dussehra, also is kwn as Vijayashmi, is a major festival celebrated by Hindus at end of Navratri every year. festival is called as Vijayashmi in sourn part of India, where it marks Durga’s victory over buffalo demon Mahishasura. In rth, festival is called as Dusshera and is marked as Rama’s victory over Ravan. Dussehra is celebrated by towering effigies of Ravan (which symbolises evil) burnt with fireworks, marking evil’s destruction. Dussehra is observed in different ways in different parts of country. WRS Colony:
entire city of Raipur reaches WRS colony to watch Ravan Dahan and celebrate Dussehra with excitement. This year, a 101 feet effigy of Ravan is prepared for festival. Effigies of Meghn and Kumbhakaran are also built for today’s festival. Dussehra is being celebrated on this ground since past 50 years. ground capacity is of three lakhs people, and 15,000 entry passes are given to people for Dussehra festival.

Ravanabhatha in Raipur:
This is oldest site in Raipur for Ravan Dahan. re is also a permanent statue of Ravan built on this ground. People also visit this Ravan Dahan site to see grand fireworks. Balaji ride and Ramleela staging will be centre of attraction here. Here 70-feet effigy of Raavan is built every year. Effigies of Meghn and Kumbhakaran stand tall at 65-65 feet. ground capacity is of 40,000 people.

Samata Colony:
Here, effigies of Ravan are being burnt for festival for many years. This colony is located in middle of city of happiness. centre of attraction here is kite flying and grand fireworks. A 70-feet effigy of Ravan will be burnt this year in this colony. This year, Chief guest here will be Mayor of Raipur, Pramod Dubey.

Sapresala Maidan:
Ravan Dahan is special for people here because festivities are carried right in middle of Raipur city. This busiest place in city is very crowded at Dussehra festival every year. Sapresala Maidan is kwn for its prominent kite-flying event. A 70-feet effigy of Ravan is built for this festival. capacity of ground is of 40,000 people. Grand fireworks are also organised every year for entertainment.
