Republic Summit 2018 | 'Is the Supreme Court bigger or Congress?': Union Minister Nitin Gadkari asks on Rafale deal

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while speaking at the second day of Republic Summit 2018 on Wednesday, gave his perspectives on an array of issues revolving around the theme of 'Shifting Gears: 2019-2014'. During the session, the Minister of Road Transport & Highways spoke on the accusations imposed by the Congress party over the pricing of the government-to-government deal of 36 multirole Rafale aircrafts. Here's what he said:

"I and Devendra Fadnavis went to the inauguration of Anil Ambani's factory in Nagpur. The project costs worth Rs. 100 crore. They are making parts of Dassault's 11-seater falcon plane. We said that 50 per cent of the production you(Dassault) can procure from the Indian companies so that they get employment. In fact, now the Supreme Court has also given clearance on Congress' allegations on Rafale. But they(Congress) insist on the JPC. Now, tell me, the Supreme Court is more prominent or the Committee?! They are arguing on the verdict of the Supreme Court also. Their objections have not much relevance. I don't think a discussion is needed."

Earlier on December 15, following the Supreme Court's verdict dismissing all petitions seeking a court-monitored inquiry in the Rafale deal, Congress party had accused the PM Modi-led government of lying in front of the three-judge bench regarding the pricing details of the fighter jets. Furthermore, the Opposition party also alleged that the government misled the topmost court by informing them that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) probed the report of CAG on the pricing issue.

Meanwhile, while discussing BJP-Shiv Sena alliance during the session themed 'Shifting Gears: 2019-2024' at Republic Summit 2018, Mr Gadkari used a Marathi proverb to explain the equation between the two parties in the state of Maharashtra. Here's what he said: 

"Have you heard of a Marathi Proverb? Tujha Majha Jamena...Tujhya Vachun Karmena. This means Can't live with you, can't live without you. The alliance of Sena and BJP was done on the basis of Hindutva. Even now, there is no conflict between the two parties on the basis of Hindutva. I feel that for the benefit of Nation, for Maharashtra and for the citizens, BJP-Shiv Sena should come together. We are trying to form an alliance and I feel that the alliance will take place. I will tell you a philosophy. There are two lines, one is your and one is his".  

At the Republic Summit 2018, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari discussed how politics and industry are linked to one another helping the nation to surge ahead. It is the analogy of politics and industry which has ensured that India has become one of the world’s fastest growing economies.
