Russia extends e-visa for Indians to visit Saint Petersburg, Leningrad
Russia will give e-visas to Indians visiting its cultural capital Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Region and extend the facility for the rest of the country

Russia will give e-visas to Indians visiting its cultural capital Saint Petersburg and Leningr Region and extend facility for rest of country by 2021, official said on October 1. facility starts from October 1 and can be availed by filling an electronic application form and uploing a digital photo at least four days before expected date of arrival in Russian Federation.

Indians will be able to obtain single business, humanitarian and tourist visas in form of an electronic document, which will be valid 30 days from date of issuance and maximum period of stay in Russian Federation should t exceed eight days.
"We want to open up Russia, liberalise rms so that we get more visitors and also to showcase our history and culture to world. We are also thinking of extending this e-visa facility for rest of Russian Federation by 2021," said Andrey V Fedorov, senior counsellor, Consular Affairs, Embassy of Russian Federation in India.

e-visa is valid only for arrival and departure via border crossing points located in territory of Saint Petersburg and Leningr Region air border crossing point Pulkovo ( local airport), sea border crossing points Vysotsk, Big Port Saint Petersburg (Marine Station), Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg, motor vehicle border crossing points Ivangorod, Torfyavka, Brusniche, Svetogorsk and pedestrian border crossing point Ivangorod. Due to technical reasons, for w, foreign nationals bearing e-visas will t be able to enter and exit Saint Petersburg and Leningr Region via train border crossing points.

Foreign nationals with e-visas are t allowed to enter or regions of Russian Federation (t covered by e-visa service) with any purpose, including transit. Fedorov, however, warned against misuse of e-visas and said such visas are t employment visas and should t be used as such. Foreign nationals bear personal responsibility for information y provide while applying for e-visas, officials said. Officials said surname and name (names) are to be d exactly as y are mentioned in passport. In case re is full or any partial inconsistency of provided information (citizenship, surname, name (names), date of birth, sex, passport number) or ar person's photograph is uploed, entry into Russian Federation will be denied at border crossing point and visa will be cancelled.

Exceptions in e-visas
only exception is case when name of a foreign national contains more symbols than it is technically possible to in application form. Transport companies are authorized to check validity of e-visas via Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation website http://evisacheck.kdmid.ru. Russia has issued around 65,000 visas from its offices in New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai offices between January - September 2019. Last year, y h issued around 55,000 visas. Around 2 per cent of visa requests are rejected, said Fedorov, who ded that Russia is also thinking of relaxing rms for regular visa.
