Marking it as the right occasion for the country to come together to become clean and healthy, former Indian cricketer and ICC Hall of Famer Sachin Tendulkar saluted the Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. Sachin Tendulkar invoked a quote said by Mahatma Gandhi about the world having enough for everyone's needs but not their greed while expressing his views on Mother Earth. As a part of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, events with the onus on spreading awareness on fitness, cleanliness and sustainable use of resources are being organized across the country. A large number of events have been planned by foreign consulates, educational institutions, business groups, etc. One such event is 'The Gandhian Challenge' organized by AIM, NITI Aayog's Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) and UNICEF India.

On the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar said that the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi such as Ahimsa, cleanliness, about the environment should be taught to the younger generation. Sachin Tendulkar extended his support to the government which aims to reduce the use of single-use plastic. Citing the example of the Army, Navy, and Airforce coming together to protect the country, Sachin Tendulkar said that it was essential to clean all three areas i.e water, air and land clean. Sachin Tendulkar gave a rallying call to join hands and take the pledge to keep India clean and healthy, starting from Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary. Congress' programmes for 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
Last month, Congress had stated that it will be organizing a week-long programme to observe the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma. It will hold padayatras (foot marches) on October 2. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will also take part in the march in New Delhi. Congress'interim President Sonia Gandhi will administer an oath to party leaders and workers in order "to redeem Gandhi, Gandhism and Gandhi's India".
BJP's programmes for 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended its Gandhi Sankalp Yatra by a period of three months. As per the memo sent to the BJP leaders, the Gandhi Sankalp Yatra will be a 120-day programme. It will come to an end on January 31, 2020. It had been scheduled to be held between October 2 and October 31. The BJP is planning to spread awareness about Mahatma Gandhi's ideals and principles of non-violence, Swaraj and simplicity to mark his 150th birth anniversary. PM Modi will begin the Yatra from Gujarat on Wednesday.
