A day after CBI submitted before a Mohali court that a new special investigation team will probe desecration of religious texts in Bargari, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said state government h faith in premier central ncy.

" decision to hand over case to a new SIT three months after CBI h filed a closure report in court is a clear ploy to delay probe and stop state government from taking over it. state government has faith in CBI in matter of Bargari sacrilege case," chief minister said in a statement here on Thursday.

Center pressuring CBI

Accusing Centre of pressuring CBI at behest of Bals, who led previous government in state, Singh said y would t allow m to prevent investigation from going back to Punjab Police. CBI on Wednesday h told Mohali court that a new team will take over probe in 2015 case. ncy h earlier filed a closure report in case involving desecration of religious texts in Faridkot's Bargari and Burj Jawahar Singh Wala vills, saying circumstantial evidence did t prove occurrence of crime. chief minister said state government would continue to oppose CBI in court and fight at all levels for getting case back to state. "We will t let anyone get away with cheating people of Punjab," he said. Earlier, Punjab government h filed a petition in Mohali court, saying CBI h jurisdiction to investigate cases.

CM said CBI h exposed itself to be totally partisan and unfair in entire affair, ding that despite repeated pleas and efforts by state government in wake of closure report, national ncy failed to return case files to Punjab Police.

" failure was clearly deliberate and mischievous so that ncy could buy time to divert case to new SIT for its eventual burial. He alleged that CBI was acting entirely under influence of Bals, which negates any possibility of a fair and thorough probe into case. Justice could only be meted out if state police investigated matter, he said. For three years, y (CBI) failed to make any heway in case despite all powers and means at ir disposal and n filed a closure report without completing investigation. And when we decided to duly take case back from m, as per decision of Vidhan Sabha last year, y have done a complete U-turn by reopening case," said CM.

Akali Leership

Amarinder Singh also came down heavily on Akali leership, particularly Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Bal, saying she should eir persue Centre to send case back to state or resign. He reminded Union minister that her party (Shiromani Akali Dal) was part of unanimous decision of Vidhan Sabha to withdraw case from CBI. Since she claimed to be a vociferous protector of Sikh rights and sentiments, she should prove her credibility by fighting within central government to get Bargari case back to Punjab Police for a fair probe, he ded. Amarinder Singh furr said whole business smacked off "all-out attempts" to bury probe and allow Bals, whose "complicity" in matter was becoming more and more clear by day, to go scot-free. His government, said CM, would go to any length to ensure that course of justice is t perverted as Bals wanted it to be. "We will fight CBI tooth and nail and ensure that investigation is taken to its logical conclusion."
