Who is Debashish Som, Close Aide of Sandip Ghosh, Allegedly 'Involved in Irregularities'

Kolkata: In the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, Former RG Kar Principal Sandeep Ghosh along with his close aide Debashish Som are under the radar of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the agency is examining a case involving financial irregularities linked to the former principal of RG Kar Hospital.

The CBI conducted raids at the former principal’s residence, as well as at the home of his close associate, Debashish Som on Sunday. 

Dr Som is associated with the Forensic Department of RG Kar Hospital and came under the lens of CBI during interrogation of Ghosh. 

Serious accusations against Debashish Som

Akhtar Ali, the former Deputy Medical Superintendent at RG Kar Hospital who currently holds the same position at Murshidabad Medical College, has made serious accusations against Debashish Som, while speaking to the Republic.

Ali claimed in conversation with Republic that Som, a close aide of the former RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh, was involved with Sandeep Ghosh in conducting several crimes and irregularities.

"Dr. Debashish Som was associated with Dr. Sandip Ghosh and was known to erase evidence of the crime. He was present in the morgue on the day of the post-mortem," said Ali. 

On Sunday morning, CBI teams raided the residence of Sandip Ghosh at 6:35 AM as part of their investigation into the financial irregularities case. They also searched the residence of Debashish Som, who works with the Forensic Department at RG Kar Hospital and came under scrutiny during the investigation of Ghosh.

 While speaking to Republic Bangla, Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of the college, alleged that Dr Ghosh was involved in multiple illegal activities, including the sale of unclaimed bodies, biomedical waste.

Ali previously informed Republic that he had lodged complaints with the Vigilance Commission and the Anti-Corruption Bureau, and attempted to file a police case, which was denied.

Additionally, Ali accused Dr. Ghosh of providing alcohol to students and manipulating their exam results by accepting bribes. "He deliberately failed some students to extort money from them," Ali alleged.
