SC Ayodhya verdict: Nirmohi Akhara to not file review petition

The Nirmohi Akhara, one of the parties to the Ayodhya title dispute that was barred by the Supreme Court on the case, has decided not to file a review petition in the top court. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of the organisation held at Ayodhya on Sunday to discuss the verdict of the Supreme Court in the matter and formulate the future course of action. The meeting chaired by the head of Nirmohi Akhara, Mahant Dinendra Das, was also attended by its Sarpanch Raja Ram Chandra Das and all other panchs of the group. Nirmohi Akhara has also decided to request for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the new trust for the Ram Temple is formed.

"We held a meeting to discuss the Supreme Court verdict in the Ayodhya Ram Temple. We welcome the verdict but the Supreme Court did not take a stand on several issues. We also discussed these matters and are formulating a future course of action," Raja Ram Chandra Das had told a news agency before the meeting. The sarpanch added that the Nirmohi Akhara has been demanding the construction of a Ram Temple in Ayodhya since the year 1885. Swamy Ram Suresh Das, an attendee of the meeting said, "We also performed 'Sarju Pujan' and prayed that the temple is constructed without any obstruction."

AIMPLB goes for review

The development comes on the day when the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) favoured seeking a review of the Supreme Court's judgement in the Ayodhya issue and said that it was against accepting the five-acre alternative land given for a mosque. "The land of the mosque belongs to Allah and under the Sharia, it cannot be given to anybody," AIMPLB secretary Zafaryab Jilani told reporters after a meeting of the board.

Nirmohi Akhara

The Nirmohi Akhara is a monastery for Lord Ram devotees which had come into existence in 1400 AD. The party had filed a suit in 1959 claiming to be the custodian of the property and seeking complete possession of the disputed land in Ayodhya. In a historic ruling, the Supreme Court on November 9 gave its verdict in the prolonged Ayodhya disputed land case and held that the entire disputed land will be given to the Hindu community to build a temple. In its unanimous verdict, CJI Ranjan Gogoi also stated that an alternative five acres of land in a "suitable, prominent place in Ayodhya" is to be allotted to the Sunni Waqf board to build a mosque. Kartik Chopra, Spokesperson of Nirmohi Akhara had then welcomed the judgement and said that the Akhara was grateful to the Supreme Court.
