School Holiday Today: Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh Schools Shut Amid Heavy Rain
The authorities have urged parents and students to remain in touch with the school administration for updates on school holidays.
New Delhi: As several southern states continue to be lashed by heavy rainfall, the respective state governments have instructed the district officials to announce school holidays. Parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have been reeling under heavy showers for a few days now. Severe waterlogging was reported in Chennai and surrounding areas.
This comes as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a red alert for several parts of Tamil Nadu. The authorities advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Furthermore, parents and students were urged to remain in touch with the school administration for updates on school holidays.
Bangalore Schools Closed Today: Schools Observe Holiday on October 17
Given the alert for an impending cyclone in Bengaluru, schools will remain closed on Thursday, October 17, as per reports. Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in Bengaluru and have left the low-lying areas inundated.
Earlier, as per the IMD alert, Bengaluru will witness heavy rains for the next two days.
Tamil Nadu School Holiday: Schools in Chennai, 3 Other Districts to Remain Closed
Given the constant heavy rain wreaking Tamil Nadu, several schools and colleges will remain closed in Chennai. The state government has announced a holiday for schools and colleges across the districts of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet, as per reports.
Andhra Pradesh School Holiday: Schools in Andhra Pradesh to Remain Closed Till Friday
As IMD predicted heavy to extreme rainfall in the isolated districts of Andhra Pradesh, authorities in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Eluru, Bapatla, NTR, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Tirupati districts have asked schools, colleges and other educational institutes to remain closed till Friday (October 18).
