Section 144 Imposed in Hyderabad: Authorities Crack Down on Protests to Maintain Public Order

Hyderabad: The Commissioner of Police on Sunday imposed Section 144 in Hyderabad Police limits for 1 month beginning 27th October 2024.

It was stated that several organisations/ parties are trying to create disturbances affecting public peace and order in Hyderabad city by resorting to dharna and protests.

Whereas reliable information has been placed before me that several organizations/parties are trying to create disturbances affecting public peace and order in Hyderabad City, by resorting to dharnas and protests.

Therefore, with a view to maintain public order, peace and tranquility in Hyderabad City, I, C.V. Anand, IPS., Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City in exercise of the powers vested in me U/s 163 of the Bharatiya Nagank Suraksha Sanhita 2023 (earlier U/s144 Cr. PC)do hereby prohibit every kind of gathering of five or more persons, processions, dharnas, rallies or public meetings and prohibit any individual/groups of individuals from making any speeches, gestures or displaying pictures, any symbols, placards, flags and any type of messages of electronic form etc... which is likely to cause disturbance to the public peace and order in the limits of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

However, peaceful dharnas and protests are allowed only at Indira Park Dharma Chowk, and any dharna or protest anywhere else in Hyderabad and Secunderabad is not permitted.

The public are hereby informed that any person violating the above ardiers especially around Secretariat and other sensitive places shall be liable for prosecution under appropriate penal provisions.

The following are exempted from the operation of this order:

  • Police Officers (including Home Guaras and SPOs) on duty.
  • Military personnel on duty.
  • Banafide funeral processions,
  • Flying Squad Education Department.
  • Persons or groups duly exempled by competent authority.

This order will remain in force from 1800 hours on 27-10-2024 to 1800 hours on 28-11-2024.
