Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been facing a huge backlash in the light of his misogynist remarks against Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Taking Rahul Gandhi's sexist comments against the Raksha Mantri into cognizance, chairperson of the National Commission for Women(NCW) Rekha Sharma slammed him on Twitter, asking the much-needed question, 'does he think women are weak?'. However, the Congress has now attacked her.

The NCW chairperson had pointed out the travesty entailed in the president of a national party making a misogynistic statement, calling it an 'irony' that Rahul Gandhi considers 'an accomplished Defence Minister of the largest democracy as a weak person'.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj also slammed Congress president Rahul Gandhi, calling his misogynist remarks against Raksha Mantri Nirmala Sitharaman "a new low in the history of Indian politics."

Taking to Twitter, Swaraj took down Rahul Gandhi for replying to Nirmala Sitharaman's response to his Rafale 'scam' allegations - a matter relating to the Ministry of Defence - first with personal attacks, and then a sexist remark.

Rahul Gandhi has come in for significant criticism for a sexist utterance made while he was speaking in Jaipur on Wednesday, where he chided the Prime Minister for asking 'a woman' to protect him.

Addressing a rally in Jaipur, the Congress president had said:

"The Prime Minister with the 56-inch-chest didn't come even once to the people's court - the Parliament. We smashed the Raksha Mantri's speech. 56-inch-chest Prime Minister said to a woman, Sitharaman ji 'protect me', I will not be able to protect myself."
