Around 50 shanties in New Town area near Kolkata and Purba Bardhaman district were gutted in two incidents of fire on day of Kali puja and Diwali on Saturday, officials said.

Three persons were injured in blaze at a vill in Purba Bardhaman while casualty was reported in fire that broke out at Gauranga Nagar locality in New Town.

Two fire tenders doused blaze in Gauranga Nagar within 30 minutes after it was reported at around 6.30 pm but around 30 shanties were burnt by that time, a fire official said.

Asked wher it was caused by fireworks, he said, " reason of fire is yet to be ascertained." Calcutta High Court h last week banned use and sale of firecrackers in West Bengal during Kali Puja, Diwali, Chhath and or pujas during this festive season to curb pollution amid COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier in day, more than 20 huts were gutted when a fire broke out at Kailashpur vill under Kankuria gram panchayat, officials in Purba Bardhaman district said.

Two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse blaze, which originated from kitchen of a house and spre to or dwellings.

Three persons suffered burn injuries as y tried to save ir belongings from fire, officials said.

One of m was mitted to a hospital, while or two were discharged after first aid.
