On Saturday, NCP supremo Shar Pawar wrote to PM Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pitching a strategy to overcome COVID-19 crisis faced by Maharashtra. Mentioning that Mumbai was hardest-hit city in vel coronavirus outbreak, he contended that re could be detrimental consequences for Indian ecomy if situation was t swiftly dressed. First, he highlighted that expected revenue shortfall of Maharashtra was Rs.1,40,000 crores, which would leave a huge hole in state's finances.
He suggested that borrowing limit of states under Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Manment Act could be enhanced. Pawar also pointed out that public spending can be reduced. However, he ackwledged that both se options could be counterproductive. reafter, he requested Centre to extend a two-year moratorium on repayment of National Small Savings Fund Loan by state governments. NCP chief also called upon Union government to give a suitable financial pack to states. According to him, re was problem in Centre resorting to deficit financing.

Pawar highlights ecomic opportunities
Pawar also put forth a number of suggestions pertaining to ecomic opportunities in wake of vel coronavirus pandemic. For instance, he urged Narendra Modi government to actively promote e-commerce and home delivery. ditionally, he predicted a bright future for telemedicine. NCP supremo observed that it was necessary to re-skill workers for emerging sectors. Furrmore, he asked Centre to proactively eng with G20 and BRICS to ensure that India becomes a manufacturing hub, capturing likely to be ceded by China.

Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally surges
Maharashtra witnessed a huge leap in vel coronavirus cases after 811 confirmed vel coronavirus cases were reported on Saturday. This has propelled state's COVID-19 tally to 7628. Maharashtra Public Health Department mentioned that 1076 persons h been discharged after full recovery. 22 deaths- 13 in Mumbai, 4 in Pune and one each in Pune rural, Malegaon, Pimpri-Chinchw, Dhule, and Solapur were reported in day, taking death toll in Maharashtra to 323.
