SSB Inspector Killed, Another Injured as Rail Overbridge Girder Falls in UP's Gorakhpur

An inspector of the Sashastra Seema Bal was killed and another seriously injured when a girder of an under-construction rail overbridge fell on them.

Gorakhpur (UP): An inspector of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) was killed, and ar was seriously injured on Thursday when a heavy girder of an under-construction rail overbridge fell on ir motorcycle in Chiluatal area. 

Police confirmed incident, stating that victims were traveling through area near a fertilizer factory at time of accident.

accident occurred when 10-quintal aluminium girder, meant for Nakha overbridge, fell after crane lifting it malfunctioned. 

chain of crane broke, causing heavy girder to crash down on two SSB inspectors.

Vijendra Singh (45) was directly hit and died instantly, while Manye Kundu (42) suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Local authorities, including police, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Government Railway Police (GRP), reached site promptly and initiated a rescue operation.

ASP (rth) Jitendra Kumar Srivastava confirmed that crane operator fled scene following incident, and efforts to locate him are ongoing.

Inspector Singh, a resident of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, has been posted at SSB Hequarters in Chiluatal since 2022.

overbridge, under construction since 2021, is part of a larger infrastructure project spanning 1,021 meters at an estimated cost of Rs 76.28 crore. 

project was launched with a foundation stone ceremony by Chief Minister Yogi ityanath , and overbridge is being constructed by UP State Bridge Corporation.
