Jammu: Kashmir International Convention Centre (KICC) is abuzz with enthusiasm, hosting the three-day State Level Philately Exhibition, KASHPEX-2023, organised by the department of Posts, J&K Circle.

Tuesday saw the kick-off of this lively celebration of stamp artistry, unveiling an impressive display of around 50,000 postage stamps and philatelic treasures.

Spanning three days and open from 11 am to 4 pm, the exhibition aims to captivate enthusiasts while serving as an engaging educational platform.

In a significant move, the India Post Office heightened the festive atmosphere by unveiling a ‘special cover’ at KICC. This cover is a tribute to the transformation of Lal Chowk's iconic Ghanta Ghar through the Srinagar Smart City initiative.

The revitalised Ghanta Ghar, embodying the spirit of ‘Naya Kashmir’, stands as a symbol of the city’s dedication to progress and modernisation.

The anticipated resonance of the special cover release among collectors, history enthusiasts and residents is serving as a tangible memento, encapsulating Srinagar's transformative journey towards modernity and urban rejuvenation.

“India Post plays a crucial role in financial inclusion and last-mile delivery. I urge school children and the audience to embrace philately for its dual benefits of knowledge enhancement and potential monetary value,” said Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle, while talking to Republic.

“Special cover unveiling at KICC is a moment of immense pride for Srinagar. It beautifully symbolises the remarkable transformation of Ghanta Ghar, reflecting the city’s embrace of modernity through the Smart City initiative,” said Fareeda Khan, a local resident.

"As a student in Srinagar, the special cover unveiling at KICC is like a lesson in history and progress. It makes me proud to witness our city's iconic landmarks being recognised on a national level,” said Zara Zahoor, a local student.

The exhibition also featured the presentation of “My Stamp”, a personalised stamp that includes a thumbnail image of the customer's photograph, logos or images of various themes.

Highlights include India's scented stamps, rare pieces from the 1800s and 1900s and an impressive showcase of top-notch stamps, first-day covers, miniature sheets and stamp cards from India and worldwide.
