Subramanian Swamy plans to visit Srinagar, says 'VHS workers send optimistic reports'

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy took to Twitter on Wednesday and stated that the Virat Hindustan Sangam (VHS) members in the Kashmir valley have been sending "optimistic reports" about the situation in the Union Territory, after the abrogation of Article 370. According to him, the VHS members, who are also members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) revealed that the people in Jammu and Kashmir have started to appreciate the Central Rule. Swamy further stated that he is planning to visit Srinagar to witness the situation. The BJP Rajya Sabha MP is the President of the VHS. 

On August 5, the BJP-led Central government abrogated Article 370 that revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and further bifurcated the State into two Union Territories - Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. 

About VHS

According to the VHS, "The group is created to educate the educated youngsters of India on the heritage and culture of this great land and to pave way for a Hindu Renaissance based on the concepts of Sanatana Dharma." They further stated that "Sanatana Dharma provides its followers with an entire world view, a way of life and with a coherent and rational view of reality."

'Kashmir returning to normalcy'

In an exclusive interview with Republic TV on Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh stated that normalcy is returning to Kashmir. He further urged the people refusing to believe the fact that normalcy has indeed returned to Kashmir to visit the valley and see for themselves. According to sources in the valley, several shopkeepers have opened their shops without fear and the hustle-bustle is going on.

Residents still waiting for internet connection

According to reports, while landlines are operational, the internet has still been snapped. This has been a major grouse among the residents. However, sources within the security apparatus say that reasonable restrictions will have to be imposed for the security of Kashmiris. Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday, while addressing the Rajya Sabha, stated, "The internet in Kashmir will be restored as soon as local administration feels it is fit to do so."
