Sudarsan Pattnaik mesmerises Japan exhibition with Konark Sun Temple sand art
After casting a spell in the minds of tourists visiting the alluring beaches of Odisha, sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik is creating the Konark’s sun temple’s wheel in Japan.

After casting a spell in the minds of tourists visiting the alluring beaches of Odisha, sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik is creating the Konark’s sun temple’s wheel in Japan. The Padmashree awardee was a part of the International Sand Art Exhibition in Sand museum in Japan. 21 artists from around the world were chosen for the exhibition, Pattnaik being the one representing India. In his sand art, he replicated the wheel of sun temple in Konark, also designated as UNESCO World Heritage site.
Sharing a thread of tweets, displaying the intricacies and precision of his art, Pattniak gathered a lot of applause as always. Being the master of his art, each and every portion of the iconic wheel was carved with such accuracy that it almost looked real. The exhibition titled ‘Travel Around the world in sand South Asia’ will be open to public from April 13. His work is one among the various sand sculptures to be showcased in the exhibition focussing on South Asia.

His twitter timeline was filled with comments by people who were mesmerised by the beauty of his art. From state ministers to CEOs, everyone praised his exceptional talent.

Pattnaik who is also the president of Odisha Lalit Kala Academy has said on several occasions that his dream is to set up a sand museum in India. He has participated in more than 50 international championships and won many awards.
