Sudha Murty, the accomplished author and wife of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy, has once again captured the attention of online audiences with her recent comments about her food habits. In a candid interview on the YouTube series 'Khaane Mein Kaun Hai,' she revealed that she follows a strict vegetarian diet, abstaining even from eggs and garlic. Her particular concern revolves around the fear of cross-contamination of utensils, where the same spoon might be used for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items.
"I am a pure vegetarian, I don't even eat eggs or garlic. What I am scared of is, that the same spoon will be used for both, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. It weighs on my mind a lot!" she candidly admitted on the show. Sudha also shared that during her travels abroad, she seeks out vegetarian restaurants or prefers to prepare her own meals. She carries a bag of food and cooking items that can be easily heated in water to ensure adherence to her dietary preferences. Unsurprisingly, her remarks made headlines and quickly began trending online, showcasing the strong interest people have in her life and views.

However, this is not the first time Murty has managed to grab the internet's attention. Here are five other instances when she made headlines:
1. Are you joking?: When UK Immigration officer refused to believe Sudha Murty

Sudha Murty shared a unique problem she faced after her son-in-law, Rishi Sunak, became the Prime Minister of the UK. During her appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, she recalled how an immigration officer refused to believe her residential address when she wrote "10 Downing Street" in the form, which is the official residence of the UK PM, who also happens to be her son-in-law.
"Once, when I had gone, they asked me my residential address. ‘Where are you staying in London?’ My elder sister was with me, and I thought I should write ’10 Downing Street’. My son also lives there (in the UK), but I don’t remember his complete address. But I finally wrote 10 Downing Street. That fellow (the immigration officer) looked at me and said, ‘Are you joking?"

"I told him, ‘nahi, sachchi bolti hu’ (No, I am telling you the truth). He thought I was joking. No one believes that I, a 72-year-old, simple lady, can be the mother-in-law of the Prime Minister," she said on the show.
2. When Sudha revealed being called 'cattle class'

Murty also recounted an incident where two business class passengers treated her unfairly based on her attire. She recalled being referred to as "cattle class" because she was wearing a salwar-kameez. However, she confronted the person for making such a statement.
"Class is not defined this way: if you have money, you have class’," Murty said on the Kapil Sharma Show, criticising the mentality of the people who think the class is derived from the bank balance and appearance of a person.

3. My daughter made her husband PM: Sudha Murty
When Rishi Sunak became the UK Prime Minister, Sudha Murty humorously remarked that the credit goes to her daughter Akshata. She playfully said, "I made my husband a businessman. My daughter made her husband the Prime Minister of the UK. The reason is the glory of the wife. See how a wife can change a husband. But I could not change my husband. I made my husband a businessman, and my daughter made her husband a Prime Minister."
4. Angry letter to JRD Tata
Sudha has also shared a courageous act from her past when she wrote a letter to JRD Tata after coming across a job notice that read, 'Ladies students need not apply.' Her actions demonstrated her determination to challenge unfair practices and advocate for gender equality.
5. Sudha's message to young voters
During the Karnataka elections, Murty delivered a powerful message to young voters after casting her vote. She emphasised the importance of voting and encouraged young people to exercise their power to drive change and development in the country.
"Please look at us. We are oldies but we get up at 6 o'clock, come here and vote. Please learn from us. Voting is a sacred part of democracy. Any democracy where there are no voters is not a healthy democracy at all. You should respect voting and you should exercise your power in case you want to change, development, projects to be implemented," Murty said.
