Sunny Deol had a ‘fanboy’-like reaction after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. The actor, filmmaker and Member of Parliament said that interacting with PM Modi always evokes a sense of joy and enthusiasm in him. He also shared that they discussed the ‘progress’ of his constituency Gurdaspur.
Sunny Deol took to Twitter on Saturday and wrote, “माननीय प्रधानमंत्री @narendramodi जी से मिलकर सदैव ही प्रसन्नता के भाव और नई ऊर्जा का संचार होता है। आज उनसे मिलकर गुरदासपुर लोकसभा के विकास को लेकर चर्चा हुई ।” (Meeting the honourable Prime Minister always infuses a sense of joy and enthusiasm in me. Today, during the meeting, we had a discussion over the progress in Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency).
Sunny Deol’s political journey
Sunny Deol was one of the most high-profile names to make their electoral debut this year. When he had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in April, he had compared his equation with PM Modi as the same as his father, veteran actor Dharmendra had with late former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, "The way my father was attached with Atalji, today I have come to join Modiji. I want PM Modi for the next five years," Deol had said before the elections.
His wish was fulfilled as the Prime Minister returned to office with a thumping majority on May 23. Sunny Deol was one of the contributors to the victory, winning 5,51,177 votes and beating Sunil Jakhar of Congress by 82,459 votes.
Sunny Deol’s stint, however, started with a controversy when he was accused of fielding a ‘proxy’ from his constituency. He had then clarified that appointing his personal assistant to represent his office was only to ensure smooth flow of work whenever he is "out of Gurdaspur to attend the Parliament or travelling for work".
Two incidents in Gurdaspur made headlines since then, one was when Sunny Deol rescued a woman from the constituency who was sold to a Pakistani man as a slave. The other was when he postponed the trailer launch of son Karan Deol’s debut Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass, also directed by Sunny Deol, and set off to Gurdaspur after a blast at a firecracker factory that killed 23 and injured many.
