New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday filed a formal complaint regarding a malicious social media post that attempted to link Chief Justice DY Chandrachud’s family member to an alleged doctor’s lobby in West Bengal. The tweet, which has been widely circulated, falsely associates CJI Chandrachud’s wife with the so-called "north Bengal lobby" of doctors.

The post surfaced ahead of the Kolkata Doctor's rape and murder case hearing, prompting significant concern.

On September 7, the West Bengal Police issued a warning against the spread of this "extremely derogatory" and baseless social media content, emphasizing that such actions are illegal and could result in severe legal consequences. The police also cautioned against using freedom of speech to spread falsehoods about the judiciary.

In a related incident, the Supreme Court had previously filed a cybercrime complaint with Delhi Police against a social media account impersonating CJI Chandrachud and requesting Rs 500 for a cab fare. This complaint was triggered after a viral screenshot of the fraudulent message came to light.
