Sushma Swaraj passes away: Sri Lanka's Opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa condoles former MEA's demise

Following the untimely demise of Former External Affairs Minister and Chief Minister of Delhi Sushma Swaraj On August 6, many noted celebrities including politicians paid their  respect to the departed soul. Joining the bandwagon was also Leader of Opposition Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Following the demise of Former External Affairs Minister and ex-Chief Minister of Delhi Sushma Swaraj On August 6, many noted celebrities including politicians paid their respect to the departed soul. Joining the bandwagon was also Leader of Opposition Hon Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Expressing grief over her sudden death the Sri Lankan politician recalled her as one who made “significant contribution to development of bilateral relationship” in his condolence message.

Taking to Twitter, the Former President of Sri Lanka recalled his encounter with the exemplary BJP leader and wrote that he was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to interact with her during his tenure as a President.

Sushma Swaraj passed away

Former External Minister Sushma Swaraj was rushed to the emergency ward of AIIMS during 9:30 pm at night as he suffered a heart attack. She was accompanied by Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan to the hospital. The late politician is survived by her husband Swaraj Kaushal and daughter Bansuri. Her mortal remains are reportedly being carried to her party office before heading towards the cremation grounds. 

On the Political Front 

Born in Ambala cantonment in what is now Haryana on February 14, 1954, Sushma Swaraj majored in Sanskrit and Political science at the Sanatan Dharma College in the Ambala Cantonment, before studying law at the Punjab University. She started practising law as an advocate at the Supreme Court of India in 1973, and in the same decade, also joined the ABVP. She participated in Jayprakash Narayan's movement during the Emergency and subsequent to that joined the newly founded BJP.
