Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Bypoll: Congress picks contrasting candidates
While Congress has given the Nanguneri ticket to a realtor in Ruby Manoharan, John Kumar- a cable operator has secured the nomination for Puducherry's seat

Congress party has opted a contrasting approach in selecting candidates for upcoming by-polls in Tamil Nu and Puducherry. While Ruby Maharan, who has a construction business has secured Nanguneri ticket, candidature of Puducherry’s Kamaraj Nagar constituency has gone to John Kumar. Kumar is owner of biggest cable network in Union territory. Along with se two seats, Vikravandi assembly seat in Tamil Nu will also go to polls on October 21. results will be declared on October 24.

tussle for Nanguneri seat
Originally, H Vasanthakumar was Member of Legislative Assembly from Nanguneri. However, seat fell vacant after he won Lok Sabha election from Kanyakumari in 2019. Once Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) allowed its alliance partner Congress to contest by-poll, internal fissures within party came to fore. or strong contender for post was octogenarian leer Kumari Ananthan. He is far of Telangana Goverr and former BJP leer Tamilisai Soundararajan. Speculation is rife that his played an important role in Congress president Sonia Gandhi finally approving Maharan’s name inste. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIMK) has fielded V Narayanan, who too is a realtor.

AIMK seeks to consolidate
In Kamaraj Nagar, former CM N Rangasamy’s All India NR Congress (AINRC) will take on Congress’ candidate Kumar. After V Vaithilingam won in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he resigned paving way for by-election. On or hand, DMK is contesting against AIMK in Vikravandi, Tamil Nu. Compared to election in Puducherry, two seats in Tamil Nu are more crucial as AIMK would want to increase ir tally. ruling party mand to save state government by winning 9 out of 22 by-elections held earlier this year.
