The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday has arrested senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar in connection with an alleged money laundering case. The Tamil Nadu Congress committee has condemned Shivakumar's arrest and called it a political vendetta against the Congress Party.

TN Congress accuses BJP of targetting dissenting voices

The Tamil Nadu Congress called the arrest a clear case of 'political vendetta'. They have further accused the BJP of targetting sane and strong voices of the Congress party. According to the TN Congress, they targetted Chidambaram; and now, the latest victim of their agenda is Shivakumar.

Shivakumar sarcastically congratulates BJP on his arrest

The arrest has come after DK Shivakumar appeared before the ED for the fourth time on Tuesday. The sitting Congress MLA from Kanakapura sarcastically congratulated the Narendra Modi-led Central government in finally succeeding in the mission of arresting him. He has called the I-T and ED cases against him politically motivated and has claimed to be a victim of BJP's politics of 'vengeance 'and 'Vendetta'.

According to sources, DK Shivakumar was arrested under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The officials further added that the Congress leader had to be put through custodial interrogation and hence was arrested. DK Shivakumar will be produced in the court by the Enforcement Directorate in New Delhi on Wednesday for his custody hearing.

The Central Agency in September last year had registered a case against DK Shivakumar, Haumanthaiah (an employee at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi), and others. DK Shivakumar has been accused of tax evasion and Hawala transaction worth crores.
