In a major controversy that has broken out in state of Tamil Nu, government re has withdrawn order to ban caste band in schools saying that things should go on as it is. Informing about entire development, sources said that School education minister KA Sengottaiyan asked all education officials t to implement order issued by department.  Sengottaiyan alleges that order was passed without his kwledge.

However, Tamil Nu BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan spoke to Republic TV and said : "BJP appealed for practices like applying Tilak on forehe and tying sacred thres on wrists to be allowed. We appeal for a ban on caste bands to end discrimination against students."

Circular on banning caste bands

Director of Education in Tamil Nu Dr S Kanappan h written to all Chief Education Officers to identify and take action against schools where children were me to wear wrist bands of different colours to identify ir caste. According to letter, officer trainees of IAS 2018 batch h lodged a representation to government which stated that students in some schools were being me to wear colour coded wrist bands which indicated ir caste.

"se wristbands, which come in shes of red, yellow, green and saffron indicate wher y belong to a 'Lower Caste' or 'Upper Caste'. In dition to this, rings and forehe 'Tilaka' on he were also used as caste marker," letter re. "se practices supposedly, are being used for sports team selection, reassembling during classes and lunch intervals. Allegedly, se practices are enforced by students mselves and supported by influential caste persons and teachers," letter stated. Education Minister Sengottaiyan has opposed this order.
