Chennai: Several areas in the Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu remained waterlogged on Thursday following heavy rainfall in the region. In the past few days, Tamil Nadu has received heavy rainfall in many districts which disrupted normal life. Visuals have emerged from Thoothukudi wherein people can be seen wading through water.
According to sources, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday visited a relief camp to distribute relief items to flood-hit people in Thoothukudi and also took stock of the situation. CM Stalin was accompanied by DMK MP K Kanimozhi when he met people affected by the flood situation in Thoothukudi. Indian Air Force and Navy had also been roped in to carry out the rescue operation. Several helicopters were pressed into service to drop food packets in flooded areas in Tuticorin. People stranded in several areas in the state were evacuated by the NDRF personnel.
