Tamil Nadu Train Collision: 19 Passengers Injured; Relief, Restoration Work Underway

Chennai: Restoration efforts are underway between the Ponneri and Kavarappettai railway stations in the Chennai Division after the Mysuru-Darbhanga Express rear-ended a stationary goods train on Friday night.
Due to the collision, as many as 19 passengers were injured and relief and restoration efforts are underway as all the passengers have been evacuated.
A special train was arranged for passengers stranded due to the collision involving the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express at Kavaraippettai Railway Station. This train departed from Dr. MGR Chennai Central at around 4:45 a.m. on Saturday to continue the journey. Officials provided the stranded passengers with food and water during the wait.
A help desk has been set up at Chennai Central Railway Station to assist affected passengers.
Nineteen passengers were injured in the incident, which occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the Chennai-Gudur section, between Ponneri and Kavaraippettai. The crash caused 12 coaches of the passenger train to derail, disrupting train traffic on the entire section. Two trains were canceled, and more than half a dozen others were diverted or operated via alternate routes.
Due to the accident involving Train No. 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express, the following trains were canceled: Train No. 12077 Dr. MGR Chennai Central-Vijayawada Jan Shatabdi Express and Train No. 12078 Vijayawada-Dr. MGR Chennai Central Jan Shatabdi Express. Several other trains were diverted, and helpline numbers were issued to assist passengers.
