Teacher makes students wear boxes to stop cheating, parents complain

In a bizarre incident, a school teacher made his students wear cardboard boxes to prevent cheating. The incident took place in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala as per foreign media reports. Following the incident, parents of the students demanded the dismissal of the teacher. The news surfaced when a parent shared a picture of the incident on social media. 

The picture of students wearing cardboard boxes on their heads went viral within hours. Parents allege that the ethics and values teacher named Luis Juarez Texis compelled all the students of the class to wear cardboard boxes to prevent cheating. Parents called it violence against the students.  "We hope that this type of violence against the Tlaxcalteca youth is not overlooked, and that the federal and state authorities dismiss this public official and that they cease this type of humiliation in a space destined for learning," a parent wrote in his Facebook post.

In response, more bizarre response was given by the school authority. They said that it was a 'dynamic exercise' that will help student's 'psychomotor development'. They also claimed that students had provided consent on the action.  "The School of Bachelors of the State of Tlaxcala (COBAT) campus 01, is respectful of the human and individual rights of the more than 1,500 students attending the upper-middle level in this institution. Therefore, given the facts reported on social networks, where the director of the 01 Tlaxcala campus, Luis Juárez Texis, allegedly violated the rights of the students, it is clarified that it was a school dynamic derived from the activities of the orientation course educational, whose purpose was at the time to generate the development of the psychomotor senses of the group members," the official statement from the school stated.

There were mixed reactions from the netizens on the incident, however, most of them favoured the teacher saying it would inculcate a good manner in the students. While some claimed that if the students were taught value of honesty at home, the step would not be necessitated. "I do not know why parents are fighting if it is the opportunity for their children to learn something and not end up like them fighting for a box," one of the netizens added.
