Guwahati: Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh on Saturday stated that technical textiles will become economic backbone of India, according to a release by Ministry of Textiles.

dressing 43rd India International Tre Fair (IITF), minister highlighted importance of carbon fibres in textile industry and India's focus on amplification of technical textiles. "re are 12 verticals or sectors in technical textiles," he ded.

" Prime Minister has allocated Rs1,500 crore for research and development in this sector. Our country is also paying greater attention to export of technical textiles, which will become economic backbone of India," said Giriraj Singh.

As India marks 150th birth anniversary of tribal leer Birsa Munda, me of event is inspired by 'Janjatiya' community, Singh noted.

minister also emphasised government's efforts to enhance textile value chain to create better income opportunities for weavers and ir families.

He furr highlighted that India has largest handloom community in world, centred on sustainability and energy efficiency. " world is moving towards sustainable products. handloom industry, which produces zero carbon footprint, consumes no energy and has a zero-water footprint, is a leer in this transition," he said.

While visiting exhibition and live display of handloom and handicrafts, Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for Textiles, underscored need to strengn se sectors to boost production, increase earnings, and engage communities. 

He also stressed importance of preserving India's rich craft heritage while apting to modern market demands.
